PLA is the most common 3D printing material, and is biodegradable. It is good for prototypes, but is not heat-resistant.
PETG offers many of the benefits of PLA, but is also more heat-resistant, so it is good for parts that will be used outdoors.
Polycarbonate (PC) is one of the hardest plastics, and is great for parts that need a little extra toughness.
Nylon is the ideal choice for mechanical parts, as it is extremely tough and very resistant to breaking and cracking.
ABS is another hard, heat-resistant plastic, but is seeing a little less use with the advent of newer materials such as PETG and PC.
